Using Jira with SoterAI
Connect your Atlassian Jira account to SoterAI and access your issues, projects, and tickets directly inside your chats and workflows.
What SoterAI can access
Once connected, SoterAI has read-only access to:
- Issues and tickets across Jira projects your account can access
- Issue details: summary, description, status, priority, assignee, reporter, labels, and comments
- Project metadata: project name, key, and issue types
- Sprint and board information (Jira Software)
- Issue links and dependencies
Read-only access: SoterAI can read and search your Jira data, but cannot create, edit, transition, assign, or delete any issues.
What SoterAI cannot do
- Cannot create, edit, transition, assign, or delete issues
- Cannot post comments on issues
- Cannot access Jira projects your account does not have permission to view
- Cannot manage project configuration, workflows, or permissions
How to connect Jira
- In the SoterAI chat bar, click the puzzle piece icon
- In the Connectors panel, find Jira and click Connect
- An authorisation link will appear — click it
- Sign in to your Atlassian account in the browser window that opens
- Grant SoterAI read access when prompted
- Return to SoterAI — Jira now shows as Connected
Note: Connecting via the Atlassian OAuth flow grants SoterAI access to both Jira and Confluence if you use both products on the same Atlassian account. You can connect them independently using their separate Connectors panel entries.
Your connection is persistent — you won't need to reconnect each session. If your connection expires, SoterAI will prompt you to reconnect.
What you can ask SoterAI
Once connected, just ask naturally in any chat or workflow:
Finding issues
- “Find any open Jira tickets related to the site safety review”
- “What issues are assigned to me in the safety project?”
- “Show me all high-priority open tickets in the HSE project”
Reading and summarising
- “Summarise the open issues in our current sprint”
- “What is the status of the permit to work improvement ticket?”
- “List all issues blocking the safety audit project”
Using in workflows
- “Pull the open action items from Jira and create a priority checklist”
- “Use the details from the Jira incident ticket to draft an incident investigation summary”
- “What safety-related issues have been closed in the last two weeks?”
Use cases
Safety action tracking
When corrective actions from audits or incidents are tracked in Jira, ask SoterAI to retrieve the relevant tickets and give you a real-time status update — without leaving the platform or logging into Jira separately.
Audit and compliance review
Ask SoterAI to search your Jira projects for tickets related to a specific compliance area and summarise the open and resolved items, giving you a clear picture of outstanding obligations.
Cross-tool workflow
Combine the Jira connector with Records Management — ask SoterAI to pull details from a Jira ticket and use them to create or populate a safety record directly in SoterAI.
Troubleshooting
My Jira connection expired
Ask SoterAI “Reconnect to Jira” and follow the authorisation link it provides.
SoterAI can't find a ticket I know exists
Confirm your Atlassian account has access to the Jira project containing that issue. Try specifying the issue key directly: “Show me the details of ticket TP-1234”.
SoterAI can access Jira but not a specific project
Your account may not have permission to view that project. Check your project permissions in Jira. If you have recently been granted access, try reconnecting your Atlassian account to refresh the permissions.
