Using Confluence with SoterAI

Connect your Atlassian Confluence account to SoterAI and search and read your organisation's wiki, documentation, and knowledge base directly inside your chats and workflows.

What SoterAI can access

Once connected, SoterAI has read-only access to:

  • Pages and blog posts in Confluence spaces your account has access to
  • Page content, titles, and metadata: author, last modified date, version
  • Comments on pages
  • Confluence spaces and their structure

Read-only access: SoterAI can read and search your Confluence content, but cannot create, edit, publish, or delete any pages or comments.

What SoterAI cannot do

  • Cannot create, edit, publish, or delete pages or blog posts
  • Cannot post or edit comments
  • Cannot access Confluence spaces your account does not have permission to view
  • Cannot manage space permissions or settings

How to connect Confluence

  1. In the SoterAI chat bar, click the puzzle piece icon
  2. In the Connectors panel, find Confluence and click Connect
  3. An authorisation link will appear — click it
  4. Sign in to your Atlassian account in the browser window that opens
  5. Grant SoterAI read access when prompted
  6. Return to SoterAI — Confluence now shows as Connected

Note: Connecting via the Atlassian OAuth flow may also grant access to Jira if you use both products on the same account.

Your connection is persistent — you won't need to reconnect each session. If your connection expires, SoterAI will prompt you to reconnect.

What you can ask SoterAI

Once connected, just ask naturally in any chat or workflow:

Finding pages

  • "Find the safety management system documentation in Confluence"
  • "Search Confluence for any pages about contractor induction procedures"
  • "What documentation do we have about lone working in Confluence?"

Reading and summarising

  • "Summarise the emergency response plan page in our Confluence wiki"
  • "What does the Confluence page about permit to work say about the approval process?"
  • "Read the onboarding guide in Confluence and list the key steps for new employees"

Using in workflows

  • "Use the safety procedure from Confluence to generate a toolbox talk on working at height"
  • "Pull the risk assessment methodology from Confluence and apply it to this new activity"
  • "Check the Confluence documentation and tell me if our lone worker procedure covers night shifts"

Use cases

Knowledge base access

When your organisation's safety procedures, policies, and guides are stored in Confluence, ask SoterAI to retrieve and use them directly — ensuring every output is grounded in your actual documented knowledge base rather than generic responses.

Documentation gap analysis

Ask SoterAI to search Confluence for documentation on a specific topic and identify what is covered and what is missing — helping you prioritise documentation updates.

Cross-referencing standards and procedures

Ask SoterAI to pull your internal procedure from Confluence and compare it against a regulatory standard or industry best practice, identifying where your documentation may need updating.

Troubleshooting

My Confluence connection expired

Ask SoterAI "Reconnect to Confluence" and follow the authorisation link it provides.

SoterAI can't find a page I know exists in Confluence

Confirm your Atlassian account has access to the Confluence space containing that page. If it's in a restricted space, check your space permissions. Try specifying the space or page title: "Find the page called [page title] in the [space name] Confluence space".

SoterAI finds the page but the content seems outdated

Confluence pages are retrieved as they are currently published. If the page was recently updated and SoterAI is returning old content, try asking again or specifying "the latest version of [page title]".
