Cloning a workflow in SoterAI

Cloning a workflow creates an independent copy in your workspace that you can edit freely without affecting the original. It is the recommended way to customise a workflow that was shared with you from another workspace.

Permission required: manage_workflows in your workspace (held by workspace owners and managers). The workflow must be visible in your workspace — either your workspace owns it, or it has been shared with you.

How to clone a workflow

If your workspace owns the workflow

  1. Go to the Workflows page and locate the workflow.
  2. Click the ⋮ menu on the workflow tile and select Clone.
  3. A confirmation toast appears (“Cloned … to this workspace”) and the copy appears in your Custom Workflows section with “ (Copy)” appended to the title.

If the workflow was shared with your workspace

  1. Open the Library tab on the Workflows page and go to the Shared with you section.
  2. Find the workflow tile and click the Clone button.
  3. A copy is created in your workspace with “ (Copy)” appended to the title.

How clones work

A clone is a fully independent custom workflow owned by your workspace. It behaves exactly like any workflow you created yourself.

  • Changes you make to the clone do not affect the original.
  • Updates to the original do not overwrite your clone.
  • The clone has no link to the original's chat conversation — the Open conversation button is not shown in the clone's Edit modal.
  • You can edit, share, archive, and clone the clone just as you would any other custom workflow you own.

Things to know

  • If the original workflow is archived after you have cloned it, your clone is unaffected.
  • Cloning from a shared workflow does not require you to enable the workflow first — you can clone directly from the Library's Shared with you section.
  • The Clone option only appears in workspaces that support custom workflows. If your workspace cannot host custom workflows, the option is hidden.
